Monday Made It 8/10:Sewing Bonanza and Erin Crondren

Most of my weekend was spent in front of my sewing machine as it was raining, so my Monday Made It is a sewing bonanza.

My purse is now a happier place.


I made a little case for my ear buds that live in my purse.  I am hoping this will prevent them from getting tangled.  I used fusible batting to make it padded.  When I make another one, I will make it about an inch bigger, so you aren't shoving as much to get them in.

The next item for my purse was a sleeve for my sun glasses.  I don't carry a hard glasses case with me, although I have about a dozen in the closet from pairs of glasses.  This means my sunglasses or my real glasses are thrown in my purse when they are not in use.  This little beauty is perfect because it is padded and small enough for my purse.


It took a few tries to figure out how to sew the lining (I forgot to leave a hole to turn it right side out), but the end product has several of my friends drooling.

I love to throw my phone in my bag and go, which, according to dear hubby, is why the screen protector is always scratched.  I used to have a neoprene sleeve, but my smart phone has out-grown it.  I used a pattern from Brassy Apple to make one of my own.


If you want to add the flap, be sure to read the directions all the way through as it is easier to add before both sides are sewn together.  I also have several requests for these: my mom's is first.


I adore my paper planner even if I am a techie who uses Google Calendar.  A couple of people I work with were giving me a hard time about it.  My response is that I use Google Calendar and Tasks, but the act of writing it out by hand commits it to memory, so I actually get more done: HELLO BRAIN RESEARCH!!!  Plus it is so stinking CUTE

My last project is this pen holder for my planner.  You can buy this great elastic at craft stores now.  I wanted one that would hold my planner closed and snuggle a few of my Fixion Pens.

Monday Made It August 3: Read Sign, Curtain, Freebie, and Sale

I am so glad I have started linking up again with Monday Made It because I actually got some projects done last week.

My first Made It is for my classroom.  We are under construction, and I can't get in my room to set up, so I am making stuff at home for when I can get back in my room.


I snagged 4 small canvases from my daughter's collection.  Yes, I asked her first.  I drew different line patterns on each one, and painted them in my classroom colors: purple and green.



I'm not nearly the artist some people are, but they turned out cute.  Then I ordered my first foll of vinyl for my Cricut.  Why did I not buy this stuff years ago????  I cut READ out and stuck them on the canvases. 


I haven't used my Cricut in probably a year, so here is a to a whole new set of projects with it!

I had some ribbon left from the classroom make over last year, so I added that to each canvas.  They will hang on the wall in the new reading corner I am setting up in the fall.





My second Made It is for my house.   I recently took down the old (from my childhood) fish curtain in our bathroom; the window is frosted but I wanted a curtain


I bought a yard of fabric and made a curtain for our bathroom.  It amazes me how two pictures taken at the same time in the same room have such different coloring.



This past week I made a new freebie for my store.  

I just added to my Teachers Pay Teacher Store that is just for bloggers and/or TPT Sellers.  Any blogger could use this set of forms as I made the Excel and Google Doc Versions editable, so you can personalize it for your social media.


One version even has the growth formulas to show you what your increase in followers was from one month to the next.

Monday Made It July 27: sewing, tech, and a giveaway

Sadly this is my first Monday Made It of summer vacation, which is more than half over.

I spent some time of Etsy this past week; well, I wasted some time anyways.  I found a ton of super cute pencil bags.  I decided to try my hand at one.  

I stumbled upon this little gem of a website in the process and wasted another hour or so.

Amber's Pencil Case Tutorial was exactly what I wanted to make.

I used her tutorial on box corners since it has been some time since I did these.




The pig one is for my oldest for back to school.


I've made three so far and got zippers yesterday to make two more.  Then my dear friend's daughter bought fabric and zipper for me to make her one.

Maybe I should give one away...thoughts?




I have started a YouTube Channel.  I have recorded two of my Periscopes and posted them.
I am still working on getting the focus and sound right.

The first one is my unboxing from my Oriental Trading Company Blogger Program Box.



The second one is a walk through of what is in my student data binder.



I made my oldest clean her room and made her a window seat from a tall, skinny bookshelf we cleaned off when we pulled books out for my classroom.


It looked pretty bad at first, but she got rid of four garbage bags of stuff.  I moved all the YA novels out of her room, so I can take them to school, which freed up a lot of space.  She doesn't have much in the way of clothes left, so back to school shopping will be fun.


I'd say it was a fairly genius use of the book shelf that was bought for me when I was her age.  I am getting some bins this week to go under it, and we will make her a cushion too.

Lastly I made a new game (an am giving it and a map away)

My classroom is a place where maps are used and created on a regular basis; there is just something about them that make my students and I happy.  We create them and use them on a daily basis.

I hate folding maps in my car and can never get them back the way they first were in the package.  Scrunch Map solves that problem. These maps are made of a coated fabric that is tear and water resistant.  What more could you ask for in a product for your classroom?



This game is currently free on my Teachers Pay Teachers store, so be sure to stop and grab it.  I used the Scrunch Map and some glass stones from the craft store.

Sunday Scoop 7/26

I have a huge to-do list for today, so I am hoping you all can assist in the motivation.




HAVE TO:

1) My mother is driving to my brother's apartment to get the rest of his stuff before he leaves to teach English in China.  The girls and I are going to meet her to pick up some stuff of mine that she has.  It will be a nice visit for us even if it is short because she has to drive 3 hours home.

2) My 14-year-old needs to clean her dresser and closet out, so we will be sorting clothes and making a list of what she will need for school in the fall.  This is a preliminary step to rearranging her room.

3) Our mower broke about a month ago and my dad was able to fix it.   Mom is bringing it down to me, so I will have to get some of the grass mowed today.  The 14-year-old and I will share the task.  I'll do part and she can do part.  Normally she does it all, but it is long and I want it done today.  Plus today is her last day off for a week because of color guard camp.


HOPE TO:

1) I have a giveaway going on right now and need to get some promotion done.  I am also sharing a bunch of great reading material on Twitter and Facebook this weekend as I work through my massive lists of save articles on Facebook.  Check out the post on my giveaway HERE.

2) There are about five big blog posts in the works.  I would love to get them all done and scheduled, but I don't know if that will happen.  Maybe I can get one or two.  I feel like I have more draft ideas than time.


HAPPY TO:

1) I am in between books, so I need to pick a new teacher book and a new fun book.  Perhaps I should look on the shelves of unread book in the basement...LOL.  Another goal of mine is to clean those off into tubs for my classroom library, which my secondary classroom has never had...eeekk...yes.  I was afraid to take my books to school.  I will be cataloging them before I put them out.
